Kurt Westveld is a passionate advocate for Christian education.  He was blessed by his parents who provided him with a Christian school education from K – 12th grade.  He grew up in West Michigan and attended Unity Christian High School.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Valley State University and became the first member of his family to graduate with a college degree and the first to move away from his beloved hometown.

In 1992, Kurt moved to Austin, Texas and began a career working in college athletics for the University of Texas at Austin.  He served 19 years in a variety of roles including sales, fundraising, hospitality and management.  Kurt served on the leadership team that helped build and upgrade multiple sports venues including the addition of suites, club levels and donor hospitality areas.  In his role at UT, he aspired to build teams of staff that provided the very best customer service and instilled great pride in developing a high level of relationship building and trust with donors and stakeholders.

Kurt accepted the call to join Concordia High School in 2015 in the role of Athletic and Development Director.  He created new revenue streams for CHS by starting the Cardinal Booster Club and Cardinal Pride Campaign.  This led to the ability to hire new coaches and create new programs for the CHS students. He started the Homecoming tradition of a Sprit Rally and BBQ Tailgate Party, which is now one the highlights of the school year.

Today, his role with CHS has evolved to include oversight external operations.  He leads teams of volunteers in the development and fundraising for the annual, scholarship, booster and capital campaign funds.  In addition, he is the lead for website, communications and social media platforms as well as community relations, business partnerships and facility operations.

He is also leading a team to develop and retrofit the new Heatherwilde Campus building which will serve as the permanent home of CHS.  He serves on the leadership team with Principal Mike Doering and Executive Adviser Dr. Tom Cedel.

Kurt and his wife Susan have a teenage daughter and son who attend Concordia High School.  They are members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin.  Kurt and Susan enjoy traveling to the Texas Coast and watching and supporting their kids sporting events as coaches, concession stand workers and scoreboard operators.

His greatest achievement at CHS is providing students the opportunity to try new things.  The ability to do something for the first time and expand their knowledge inside and outside of the classroom to help them grow into Christian leaders in our community.
