Mrs. Kayla Winkler M.S.
Kayla Winkler is a native Texan, and is a lifelong educator. She graduated from Concordia University at Austin in 2005 with a degree as Director of Christian Education, and her masters degree in Family Life Education from Concordia University St Paul, MN, in 2010. She has taught all ages from birth to seasoned adults. She is a proud wife and a mother of 2. Her career has spanned from preschool director to middle school teacher to youth director to college professor and now High School teacher. She enjoys hobbies such as serving in her local church, singing in a Christian Community choir, crocheting, watching documentaries, travel, public speaking and learning about new cultures. Her career at Concordia High School began in 2019. She was drawn to Concordia because of the values of faith, community, and quality education. She believes Concordia is
unique because of how the teachers are able to not only teach core subjects, but also minister to students in a Christ like way amid all the developmental questions posed throughout the teen years. "It's always a blessing to get to counsel students through their life and faith questions pointing them to Christ as the answer, by asking the students deep questions leading to self discovery. I believe it is my job to listen and learn from students, along with guiding and equipping them to be Truth seekers beyond the classroom. What motivates me to show up every day is quality relationships which make an impact for a lifetime. Each student who shows up on Concordia's campus is a purposefully created child of God, and has a role to play in our community. I have the pleasure of showing them how Christ relates to their lives in our modern society and helping them, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to encounter God's love on a daily basis." Her favorite subject to teach is world religions. She enjoys the challenge, and most importantly showing how, in the end, all religions are looking for the ultimate answer found in the saving work of Christ Jesus alone. Some of her proudest moments at Concordia have been when students come to faith in Jesus, grow in faith, learn how they are distinctly gifted, and utilize their gifts to impact Concordia and the world around them in a godly way. How Mrs. Winkler defines success: "Success looks like growth. Success is taking on a challenge, wrestling with it, and overcoming the struggle. Some students success looks like making high As, others it looks like turning in every assignment, and yet others it looks like doing their best to complete work accurately (even if the grades don't match their effort.) Success also looks like student engagement, asking hard questions, learning to respect others and discussing topics in a kind way." Her life verse is Ecclesiastes 3:1, "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:"
