Mrs. Mary Plaisance B.S.
Born and raised in Austin, Mary Plaisance has deep roots in the city, where her three siblings also reside. She graduated from UT Austin with a degree in Science Education, which laid the foundation for her career and personal life.
While at UT Austin, Mary Pennybacker met David Plaisance, and the two married eight years later. They have two daughters: Susan, who works as the Business Manager for Long Beach Volleyball and manages her role remotely from Houston, where she lives with her husband and their two precious daughters; and Sarah, an attorney based in Austin.
Upon graduation, Mrs. Plaisance began her teaching career at Pflugerville Middle School, where she taught 8th grade science for 24 years. She later transitioned to Hendrickson High School, following her daughter Sarah. Over the course of 16 years, she taught Biology, AP Environmental Science, Anatomy & Physiology, and Aquatic Science. She retired in May 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, Mrs. Plaisance is thrilled to be teaching Biology and Environmental Science at Concordia High School. She finds renewed joy and purpose in the classroom, especially within a Christian environment that aligns with her values.
In addition to her teaching role, Mary Plaisance and David are members of the UT Chancellor's Council, with Mary serving on the UT Chancellor's Council Executive Committee. They are also enthusiastic supporters of UT sports, holding season tickets to various events. As a lifelong Episcopalian, Mary Plaisance is a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, where she has served on the vestry and the school board.
In her spare time, Mrs. Plaisance enjoys spending as much time as possible with her granddaughters in Houston.
