Mrs. Ralene Gideon B.S.

Mrs. Gideon teaches Geometry, Algebra 2, PreCalculus, and Dual Credit Calculus at Concordia High School.   She is intrigued by the structure and beauty of mathematics and desires to share her love and passion for math with her students.

Mrs. Gideon has been teaching for 40 years (32 in public education and eight at CHS). Her first teaching job was at Hays High School at a whopping $11,000 a year! Her then boyfriend, and now husband, who was also teaching and coaching, had to buy her groceries and put gas in her car so that she could survive.

In her professional career, Mrs. Gideon has taught in all classifications of Texas high schools. She has served as math department chairperson, gifted and talented campus coordinator, International Baccalaureate--Creativity, Action, and Service director, and lead mentor for new-to-profession teachers.

Mrs. Gideon attended Angelo State University for one year and transferred to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos (known now as Texas State University) where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business and mathematics education.

One thing that most people don't know about Mrs. Gideon is that she (along with 3 other REALLY fast girls; she admits she was not the speedy one) competed at the state track meet and achieved the 800-meter relay record, which still stands. Since running tracks were being converted to metric measurements in the late 1970s, the record in yards is considered "perpetual" and can never be "broken".

Mrs. Gideon and her husband are working their way through some “bucket list” items including visiting our national parks. They have experienced over half of the national parks and continue to be amazed by God’s handiwork in nature and grateful that our nation has chosen to preserve these treasures.

One of Mrs. Gideon’s greatest joys is family.  She is “Mom” to Quincee and Blake and “Lovey” to three grandbabies, Barrett, Catherine, and Moxie, but her roles of wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, friend, and Concordia colleague only serve to supplement her life.

Just for fun…How many math references can you find in the above bio?  Come see Mrs. Gideon at CHS for the answer.
